Tri-Star Motorsports announced on Thursday that Benny Gordon will drive the No. 44 Florida Lottery Toyota during the season-opening NASCAR XFINITY Series Powershares QQQ 300 at Daytona International Speedway.

Gordon, who hails from DuBois, PA cut his teeth in stock car racing by racing in the Slim Jim All Pro Series in the late 1990’s and early 2000’s. He then moved on to the USAR Hooters Pro Cup Series and won Rookie of the Year honors in 2003. Gordon went on to win the championship during the 2005 and 2008 seasons.

In 2012, Gordon showed his plate racing prowess by finishing 12th in the season-opening race at Daytona for SR2 Motorsports. He recorded his best career finish and scored his first career top-five finish in the July race at Daytona in 2015 where he finished fifth.

Gordon is looking forward to returning to the high-banks of Daytona where he has enjoyed most of his success in NASCAR.

“I’m excited to return to Daytona in the No. 44 Toyota representing TriStar Motorsports. It’s a great opportunity having the Florida Lottery on board as our primary sponsor as well as the continued support of VSI Racing,” says Gordon. “I appreciate their support and look forward to a solid weekend in Daytona.”
