RPM and TBR Sustain Suspensions and Fines Following Talladega
After finishing fourth in the GEICO 500 at Talladega Superspeedway, Aric Almirola and Richard Petty Motorsports received an L1-level penalty.
NASCAR determined that the No. 43 Ford was outside the tolerated measurements regarding the rear wheel steer, as found on the Laser Inspection Station post-race.
Crew chief Drew Blickensderefer was fined $65,000 and suspended for the next three Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series points events. Additionally, the team loses 35 driver and owner points. NASCAR also stated the finish is now deemed “encumbered”, and cannot be used to settle a tie-breaker in the points standings.
“We accept NASCAR’s decision and will continue to work to get the most out of our race cars every week while maintaining the NASCAR rulebook,” RPM’s Director of Competition Philippe Lopez said a statement. “We look forward to Kansas this weekend.”
After the penalty, Almirola drops four spots in the championship standings to 21st with three top-10’s in 10 events.
NASCAR also issued a $10,000 to Tommy Baldwin Racing crew chief Ken Davis as a result of a missing a lug nut on the No. 7 Chevrolet. Elliott Sadler drove the car, finishing 17th at Talladega.
